Wedding Invitations for Green Weddings

Wedding Invitations for Green WeddingsYour wedding invitations are the first glimpse that your guests will have into what your wedding is going to be like. Many times, just by looking at the wedding invitation you can tell if there are any special themes to the wedding, what the wedding colors are, and if the wedding is going to be formal or informal. So if you are planning a green wedding, then this is the perfect place to let your guests know. But while wedding invitations are great for getting the word out, you can’t really do without them when you’re planning your wedding. This is sort of a double edged sword for many environmentally conscious couples. While you pretty much have to have wedding invitations for your green wedding, they can and do still produce a lot of waste that can be avoided. So what kinds of options are available to you? Here are some great steps that you can take to greatly reduce the amount of waste that occurs from wedding invitations in your green wedding.

Look for Recycled Paper

This is kind of a no-brainer, but one of the best things you can do when choosing the wedding invitations for your green wedding is to go for a paper that has a high-recycled content. There are some beautiful recycled papers that comes in all colors and designs. Buying recycled paper does make a difference on the amount of trees and other resources you are using for all new paper.

Use Tree-Free Paper

Another option that many couples planning a green wedding will use is to purchase a paper that is made from an alternative material other than paper, such as hemp or bamboo. From my research, I’ve found that paper can be made from almost any plant cellulose, including some agricultural products such as sugar cane and corn stalk, which will grow much faster than a tree. You can find many alternative papers on the Internet that are all natural, and some that are even do it yourself invitations.

Reduce the Inserts

Traditionally, there are several different inserts which go into a wedding invitation. These include, but are not limited to, the outer envelope, the inner envelope, the invitation, tissue paper, map to the reception, registry cards and the RSVP cards with their envelope. Thats a lot for just one invitation isn’t it? Instead, why not try and reduce the number of inserts you’re putting into your wedding invitation. For example, you can insert one card which has all the necessary information, or better yet, insert a card with a web address to your wedding website where your guests will find all the necessary information they need, and have them RSVP there as well. You’ll feel better about all of the paper you save.

The whole point in planning a green wedding is to reduce the waste you are putting out into the environment, but it is also to help get the attention of your friends and family about small things that they can do to protect the world around them. Planning a green wedding should help your friends and family to realize that by just making a few simple changes in their lifestyles can help to have a lasting impact on the world around them. When you’re planning a green wedding, there are several other places where you can conserve paper that are important to take notice of, which I will cover in my next article. Write in and let me know what you think.
