Hiring a Wedding Videographer

Finding a Wedding Videographer

Somewhere in your wedding budget you should have a slot for a wedding photographer, that pretty much goes without saying. You want to have tangible keepsakes of your wedding day, from the kisses and hugs before the ceremony to your first married dance with your husband. A wedding photographer is a great way to get that accomplished. But one thing that many brides don’t think about hiring is a wedding videographer. A wedding videographer is typically an expense separate from your wedding photographer, but the wedding videographer will provide you with a keepsake quite different than the photographs that will hang on your wall or sit in a photo album. A wedding videographer will provide so much more memories with the sights and sounds of your wedding, from the wedding toasts to your reception music and everything in between. So while wedding videographers are typically considered less of a priority than your wedding photographer, many brides will be missing out on some great memories. Here are some great things to look for when choosing a wedding videographer.

Finding a Wedding Videographer

Perhaps word of mouth from your friends and family is the best way to find a wedding videographer. If that doesn’t work, then many areas have free wedding guides that they can pass out to brides with lists of local wedding vendors that you can call and look into. My husband and I chose to just have a wedding videographer for our wedding ceremony only, and so we had a man in our church take care of the video, and now we have some great memories we can hang onto.

Interviewing a Wedding Videographer

Once you have several names and numbers of local wedding videographers, it is important to set up interviews with each one of them and ask to look at some of their previous work. A typical wedding videographer will have samples of their work that you can view. A helpful piece of advice, ask to see a clip of a wedding that is about 20 to 30 minutes long so that you can really get an idea for the quality of their work. Be sure to look at the overall quality of the picture and music, and the transitions of one event from the other. Looking at past samples of their work will help you to get a vision of how your wedding video will turn out.

A Wedding Videographer Helpful Hint

Be sure to talk to your wedding videographer about what kind of format your wedding video will be in. These days, with technology being the way that it is that obviously a DVD format is the best way to go. You need to be careful with this as well. There is a lot of buzz going on right now with the two ways to play a high-def DVD. It was recently announced that Blu-ray DVD is going to prevail as the standard, so make sure that your wedding videographer has the necessary technology for you to still be able to play your wedding video into the future.

Whether or not you decide to hire a wedding videographer is really up to you and the kind o budget that you have. While you don’t have to have a wedding videographer, and many couples today choose not to, other couples consider them a major part of creating memories for after the wedding. Only from a wedding video will you be able to capture funny or touching moments that you may have forgotten about otherwise, as well as being able to hear your wedding vows, special music, and the voices of family and friends who have attended your wedding.
