First Anniversary Gift

Miscellaneous No Comments »

First Anniversary GiftWith our first anniversary just days away now, it seems that my mind has drifted to all things about anniversaries, and in particular, those couples celebrating their first anniversary. Your first anniversary is a big thing, and something to be excited about. Now you can finally eat that top layer of your wedding cake that has been sitting in your freezer for the past year.  But I am excited about our first anniversary coming up. And, as always, with the first anniversary you need to consider what kind of first anniversary gift you want to give to your spouse…which can be difficult on such an occasion. I know that we had some problems coming up with ideas on what to do for our first anniversary, much less a first anniversary gift. So if you are about to celebrate your first anniversary, and need some ideas for a first anniversary gift, then here are some great ideas to help you out.

Go the Traditional Route

Traditionally, the first anniversary gift you’re supposed to give is paper. But it doesn’t say what kind of paper, so it doesn’t just have to be a card wishing your spouse a happy anniversary. So if you want to go with tradition, then get creative on what kind of paper to give. You could buy tickets for a play, sporting event or comedy club (the tickets are paper), or some nice stationary if your wife likes to write letters. Another idea for a great first anniversary gift is for the two of you to create a sort of wedding time capsule.

Comfortable Wedding Shoes

Wedding Shoes No Comments »

Comfortable Wedding ShoesOne of the most important things when shopping for your wedding shoes is that you need to purchase comfortable wedding shoes. Now, that doesn’t mean that I’m telling every bride out there that wedding flip flops or wedding tennis shoes are the only routes you can take when looking for comfortable wedding shoes. That isn’t the case at all. Different brides feel comfortable wearing different kinds of shoes, and some girls feel more comfortable wearing a pair of classy wedding shoes with a heel or other kind of elegant wedding shoes. So, if you’ve been looking around for a great pair of comfortable wedding shoes, and all you’ve been seeing are articles about how wedding tennis shoes are the only comfortable wedding shoes, that isn’t necessarily true. Here are some great ways to find a pair of comfortable wedding shoes that are still elegant and classy for your big day.

Trying on Your Wedding Shoes

One of the best ways to find a pair of comfortable wedding shoes is to try them on in the store, and be serious about trying them on. Try on both of the shoes, and walk around for a few minutes to see if there is any pinching, spots that rub particularly painfully, or any other factor that would make the shoes uncomfortable. If the shoes start hurting after a few minutes, chances are you won’t last in them all day at your wedding comfortably. So be serious when trying on shoes at the store, and take your time with each pair - you’ll be glad that you did.

Breaking in Your Wedding Shoes

If you find a pair of wedding shoes that you fall in love with, but they pinch a little and you think they just need to be broken in a little bit, be careful. You can try to break in your pair of wedding shoes by wearing them around the house or on short trips outside. (be careful not to get them dirty!) The only problem with this is that it can take a long time to break in a pair of shoes, and you’ll need to consider that carefully. If wearing the shoes give you blisters, you’ll probably get blisters from breaking in the shoes, and you want to give your feet time to heal for the big day. Also, you need to wear your wedding shoes with your dress while getting the dress altered, and if you decide later that the shoes you’ve chosen will be too uncomfortable - it could mess up the length of your dress. So be very careful when trying to break in a pair of shoes.

There are some good brands of wedding shoes that you can go with in the stores that are made to be comfortable wedding shoes for your big day. Just be careful when trying them on, and honest with yourself about how comfortable you’ll be in the wedding shoes you pick out. Trust me - you’ll be on your feet all day on your wedding day, and comfortable wedding shoes are a must!

Renewing Wedding Vows

Wedding Vows 2 Comments »

Renewing Wedding VowsWhen it seems today that so many marriages are ending in divorce, and so many couples seem to be losing their dedication to one another, a couple who is determined to stay together through thick and thin is something to be celebrated.  Many couples demonstrate their dedication to one another through ceremonies for renewing wedding vows.  If you are wanting to have a ceremony meant for renewing your wedding vows, understand that you don’t need to plan another full wedding. Renewing wedding vows is a time of celebration between family and close friends, and can be as casual and personal as you want it to be.  Many couples renewing their wedding vows are doing so to celebrate an anniversary, or perhaps after they have come out of a difficult time in their marriage, such as a period of separation or overcoming a serious illness. Renewing wedding vows after an event like this is truly something to be celebrated. So, if you are planning on renewing wedding vows, then here are some great tips and ideas to use to make your day perfect.

Renewing Wedding Vows with Family

One thing many couples renewing wedding vows want to focus on is their family. So be sure to make your children and/or grandchildren have a part in the ceremony. You can do this in several ways. Have your children be bridesmaids or groomsmen, or have them participate with you in the unity candle. Have your grandchildren be a flower girl or ring bearer, or ask them to perform a little song during the ceremony. You can include a recent family portrait in your invitations, or transform a favorite picture from a child or grandchild into your invitation. Renewing wedding vows is a touching time for your family, so be sure to give them some sort of role in your ceremony.

Renewing Wedding Vows

For couples renewing wedding vows,  the vows you say can be anything you like. You can say the vows that you said at your wedding, or you can write your own vows to let the other know just how dedicated you still are to them.  Many couples renewing wedding vows choose to write their own vows, as they have something special and heartfelt to tell their spouse. Talk about how much your love has grown over the years, how they have made you a better person, and how much you love them today. Spend time on your wedding vows, because after all - renewing wedding vows is the whole reason for the ceremony.

Renewing Wedding Vows - Remembering Your Wedding

One thing many couples renewing wedding vows like to do is to bring into remembrance their first wedding. You can do this by displaying photographs of your first wedding, or re-creating the wedding cake or bridal bouquet that you carried. If you can, invite the same pastor you had do the ceremony to officiate the ceremony for your vow renewal. Another idea is to go on a second honeymoon, maybe to the same place you went before. What a beautiful and romantic time renewing your wedding vows can be!

There is no set of rules and regulations when it comes to renewing wedding vows. Just be sure to focus on your spouse and the love and dedication that you still feel for them. Ceremonies of couples renewing wedding vows is a romantic and touching time for everyone in attendance, and how refreshing to see couples still dedicated to each other.

Wedding Headpieces

Miscellaneous, Wedding Hairstyles 2 Comments »

Wedding HeadpiecesIf you’ve done any kind of searching through bridal magazines, then you’re sure to have noticed that nearly all of the brides in there are wearing one of many kinds of wedding headpieces. Wedding headpieces is kind of a generic term, but there are many different kinds of wedding headpieces that brides can wear to adorn their hair on their wedding day. There are many different kinds of wedding headpieces to choose from, and you’ll need to consider what kind of wedding you are having, as well as what your wedding budget is before you start looking at wedding headpieces. While some headpieces can be just a few dollars, such as a beautiful flower or group of flowers, other wedding headpieces can be ornate and costly. So if you have your wedding dress and are looking for the perfect wedding headpiece to accent your wedding hairstyle, then here are some great options you can look at when choosing wedding headpieces.

Using Flowers as Wedding Headpieces

This is perhaps the least expensive option you can go with for your wedding headpiece. Talk to your florist about what kind of flowers you’d like in your hair, such as one large colored flower or many small white flowers. Your florist can tell about which kinds of flowers are sturdy enough to last a whole day without wilting, as well as how much each bloom will cost you. Flowers can make a beautiful and an elegant headpiece for your wedding day that won’t cost very much.

Bridal Tiaras and Headbands

Many brides choose to go with a bridal tiara or headband for their wedding headpiece as an added touch of elegance and beauty. It can be difficult to find the perfect tiara or headband to serve as your headpiece, but be patient and find a headpiece that you fall in love with. I chose a small bridal tiara that had delicate little flowers on it and crystals, but it took me several months. See my article on Bridal Tiaras for more information. Bridal tiaras and headbands can make beautiful wedding headpieces with a sparkle, but you could wind up paying a pretty penny if you’re not careful. One of the great things about bridal tiaras and headbands is that you can keep them after the wedding as a memory. Only, as I’ve found, there aren’t many places outside of a wedding where you can wear a bridal tiara and not look silly.

Bridal Hats and Other Headpieces

As I mention in one of my previous articles about Wedding Hats, some people really love the idea of using wedding hats as a wedding headpiece. Granted, if you have the right kind of wedding hat then you don’t really need to worry about having a wedding hairstyle. But there are many different kinds of wedding combs you can purchase any kind of decoration on them, such as silk flowers or even crystals for a sparkley wedding headpiece.

There are many different kinds of wedding headpieces that you can choose from to create your perfect wedding day look. The best advice I have for choosing the perfect one is to look around in several nearby bridal boutiques and jewelry stores (Claire’s typically has some great tiaras) for ones that you like. Also, look in bridal magazines for a particular look that you love, and try your best to copy that look…even if it means creating your own wedding headpiece.
