DIY Wedding InvitationsI’ve always said that creating your own wedding invitations is a great place to save money on your wedding. I created my own invitations as well. My decoration was sage green ribbon woven through the edges (I used a very small hole puncher so you couldn’t see the holes) and a raffia bow on top (raffia was super cheap and gave it that “green friendly” look I was going for. Then my husband and I filled tiny envelopes with flower seeds for people to plant and remember our day. The envelopes had a handwritten poem on it. Something a bit different. (We also thought throwing flower seeds instead of blowing bubbles was a cool “get away” idea)

Well, I had lots of personalized envelopes so the only thing I needed was the card. Imma graphic designer so I designed a pretty simple generic 2-fold card with the text “A Happy Occasion” instead of Wedding Invitation, sent it off to offset print and done within a week. For the insert, I printed using rice paper (think see thru/transparent type) all the details.

I also did a version for my bestie – a card invite cum envelope (no real envelope needed).

re: The envelope, the easiest way to make envelopes stand out is to add lining. I bought medium size white envelopes, or you can also get it in other *very very light* colors like, light link, light cream, light lilac. Then I bought different type of gift wrappers with nice designs and cut it it so that it fits the inside of the envelope. Once I got one size correct, I cut those giftwrappers in tiny pieces so I dont waste them, stack them and use paper cutter to cut. Once I got it all, I just insert > fold and put a slight glue (get the glue in a stick and not the gooey type.) I did that during my free time and it was not meant for wedding cards at first but then I had alot of it so I figured I could use it.

Here\’s a link I found to personalize envelope (guide)

You can also use plain envelope without lining but preferably a slightly thicker than normal envelope (a good example are Hallmark\’s envelope) and then get your nearest art shops or even print shop to prepare for you an embosser and then add that to the envelope.
