With our first anniversary just days away now, it seems that my mind has drifted to all things about anniversaries, and in particular, those couples celebrating their first anniversary. Your first anniversary is a big thing, and something to be excited about. Now you can finally eat that top layer of your wedding cake that has been sitting in your freezer for the past year. But I am excited about our first anniversary coming up. And, as always, with the first anniversary you need to consider what kind of first anniversary gift you want to give to your spouse…which can be difficult on such an occasion. I know that we had some problems coming up with ideas on what to do for our first anniversary, much less a first anniversary gift. So if you are about to celebrate your first anniversary, and need some ideas for a first anniversary gift, then here are some great ideas to help you out.
Go the Traditional Route
Traditionally, the first anniversary gift you’re supposed to give is paper. But it doesn’t say what kind of paper, so it doesn’t just have to be a card wishing your spouse a happy anniversary. So if you want to go with tradition, then get creative on what kind of paper to give. You could buy tickets for a play, sporting event or comedy club (the tickets are paper), or some nice stationary if your wife likes to write letters. Another idea for a great first anniversary gift is for the two of you to create a sort of wedding time capsule.
Write letters to each other to place in the capsule, maybe include pictures of yourselves, what’s going on in your lives at the moment, favorite memories that you have, and anything else you want to include. Then, promise each other that you’ll open it up at another anniversary down the line, such as a 20 year or more. How much fun that will be when you open it to look back at what you’ve left.
Go the Romantic Route
Another great first anniversary gift is to do something romantic for your spouse. You can take her back to the place you proposed, if it is a park or beach, then go back with a picnic lunch or dinner. If you proposed at a restaurant, then take her back to that same restaurant and see if you can get the same table you had when you proposed. Whatever you choose to do, be sure to go all out and make sure it’s from the heart. Create some new romantic memories for a great first anniversary gift.
Your first anniversary gift can really be anything that you want it to be, you don’t have to go with the traditional methods of gift giving for anniversaries. But whatever you do, be sure to tell your spouse how much you love them, and how much you can’t wait to spend the rest of your life with them. Sometimes just spending some quality uninterrupted time together is the best first anniversary gift you can give. Happy celebrating!
