Getting ready to have your wedding is stressful. Planning an honeymoon can be stressful. But packing for an international honeymoon can also be really stressful. I’ve really learned this lately, and that is that packing for any kind of international trip can be overwhelming if you’ve never had been overseas or in another country before. There are so many things to consider when planning these kinds of trips that it’s best to be prepared as early as you can. When my husband and I were planning our wedding, it was pretty stressful. There were so many details to get right and to check on, and of course, so many decisions to make. Since I was overwhelmed with the wedding part of it, (my husband didn’t have any preferences on wedding details), my husband was totally in charge of the honeymoon plans. So if your honeymoon is going to be in another country, here are some great tips for packing for an international honeymoon.
Packing for an International Honeymoon - Forms and Paperwork
Perhaps the most important thing that you’re going to need when packing for an international honeymoon is your passort. Now I know that the dates requiring a passport to travel into Mexico or Canada by car keep getting pushed back, but it’s still safest to go ahead and have your passport. The fee to get one isn’t that much money, and they don’t expire for 10 years, so you can always use it again later. My husband and I bought our honeymoon tickets on the Internet, so we also had to bring copies of all our forms to the check-in desk to get our tickets, which makes any online forms you may need another important thing to bring when packing for an international honeymoon.
Packing for an International Honeymoon – Check the Weather!
As I write this, my husband and I are in Thailand, visiting and helping some missionaries that our church supports. Being a small town Texas girl, I don’t know a lot about geography of other countries. We checked the weather, and saw that it was in the mid 80s, and figured we could dress how we normally did in our spring months. But when we got here, it was a much hotter 80 degrees than what we were prepared for, so many of the thicker shirts my husband packed will not be worn on this trip! So be sure to check the weather for the destination you’re going to be visiting. Find out if the nights are cold, if there is frequent rain, such as in many parts of Europe), or even if there’s going to be a freak cold spell! If you pack accordingly, you’ll be comfortable for your trip!
Packing for an International Honeymoon – Any Extras
When I was in high school, our senior class took a trip to London and Scotland, taking a tour bus around to see the sights and cross the country. From staying in all the hotels, we were warned beforehand to bring some converters so that we could plug our hair dryers, curling irons, and other devices into the wall withouth shorting out the system. If you’re going to be backpacking or touring in another country, it would do you well to think of these! Also, check into their type of money, what the exchange rates are, and if they take American dollars or not.
Whichever location you’re considering visiting for your international honeymoon, it’s a good idea to do as much research as you can about them before taking your trip. Just like they say, knowledge is power – and you can save yourself a lot of heartache – and a bad honeymoon experience just by doing your research and being prepared.
