Are you looking for a new kind of wedding cake that isn’t your traditional round tiered wedding cake? Square wedding cakes are a pretty new modern trend that many brides are going with to help make their wedding cake stand out from the rest. You could even have all tiers be square wedding cakes, and then turn every other tier for a really unique look. You can’t do that with round wedding cakes. Being able to alternate shapes and positions on square wedding cakes can really make your wedding cake stand apart from the rest.
Square Wedding Cake Decorations
Another great thing that I love about square wedding cakes are the different kinds of decorations that you can do with them. There are lots of different designs and colors that you can do square wedding cakes and still have them all look different from each other. You can make square wedding cakes look like baskets, gifts and picture frames, and through the use of fondant you can have either soft rounded edges on your square wedding cake or sharp angles. So when you’re trying to pick out the perfect design for your cake, be sure to look at lots of pictures for ideas on what would work for you.
Other Square Wedding Cake Benefits
First of all, I know I already mentioned it, but square wedding cakes are super trendy and modern, and just by using that shape for your wedding cake, you’ll make a statement at your wedding. But not only do you have more options in decorating looking trendy, but they could help you save money as well. When it comes to cutting the cake for your wedding guests, square wedding cakes are naturally easier to cut. If you have an inexperienced cake cutter manning the tables to cut the cake, chances are that with a round wedding cake, the pieces are going to be too big, or they won’t know how to cut it to get the right number of pieces from each tier. A square wedding cake however, is more natural to be cutting, so you may actually get more slices from a square wedding cake than a round one.
There are lots of great reasons for choosing square wedding cakes over round ones. But when it comes down to it, just pick a wedding cake design and style that fits your personality and what you have envisioned for your wedding. You can’t go wrong when you choose something that you love because your wedding day is all about you.

Another idea for square cakes is having square mini cakes – or cupcakes. Brides are stacking square shaped mini-cakes (slightly larger than cupcakes) adorned with flowers or dressed as presents for a completely different take on the cupcake frenzy.
