Having a Target wedding registry is great for your wedding guests who may have a pretty tight budget. You can get some really chic looks for a lower price than you would a fancy department store. Not only that, but their online registry is perhaps the most popular of all. Brides love having a Target registry because of the popular designs and colors their store’s have in stock, plus the fact that not everything they are registering for is overpriced. You really can’t beat it. Plus, Target’s wedding registry offers a lot of great benefits such as checklists, and tips and tricks to help you have a smooth wedding day.

Target Wedding Registry – Why You Need to Watch Out

Target has recently adopted a pretty strict return policy which can seem to treat their customers like thieves and liars.  I’ve heard many many horror stories about not only their return policy, but also their registry malfunctioning. For example, instead of just scanning the bar code of the item and the bar code of the couples name, the store also requires that you circle the items, but they don’t tell the customer or YOU about this. Then, when it is not done, there is a huge chance that the item will still show as available in your wedding registry. Then, because of Target’s return policy, many couples get stuck being unable to return duplicate sets of gifts. This is not a situation you want to get stuck in, especially if you want to use Target exclusively for your wedding registry.

So, while a Target wedding registry may seem like something of a dream to you, you really need to tread carefully in this area. The last thing you need is a battle between yourself and Target once you get back from your honeymoon. My advice, if you must do Target then limit your Target wedding registry to just a few items that you like, and leave the majority of items to another, more wedding registry store. The answer is, of course, yes. It is your wedding, you can register for as much, or as little as you want. So, give all of your old stuff away, have a garage sale after the wedding, do whatever you want. You have every right to make your new home show off the tastes of both you and your finance. If you are more sentimental, think about it this way, your new home is a new beginning, the start of a new life together. Instead of getting together and thinking this is mine, this is his, everything from a wedding registry can become, this is ours.

The best way to handle such a large wedding registry is to make a list of everything that you will need and want. Be realistic though, if you don’t cook and hate baking, then registering for an assortment of baking pans might not be the best idea. Go through each room of your new home, choose a color theme for each room, and plan what you will need to make the new look work. These days, you can register for just about anything you want. From household goods to decorating accessories, the sky is the limit.

My husband and I faced the same problem when we got married. Each of us had our own homes established before marriage, and we chose to keep some of the things we had before the marriage. We went through everything that we had, and then decided what we needed for the new house, what we wanted to keep, and what we wanted a replacement of in the house. It was a great way to keep our wedding registry simple with some of the basics we needed. It ended up working out great for us. We had an online wedding registry since our family is totally spread out, it was easy for friends and family to buy us a gift and have it shipped. To be honest, I would do it the same way again.

Can I Register for All New Stuff?

One of the best ways to do this is let your close friends and family know that you would rather have cash to use towards your honeymoon, down payment for a house, or even to go towards to the cost of the wedding. That way when people ask your friends and family where you are registered, they can tell them where you are registered, but also that you are saving that particular something. That way both options are presented, and the guest understands that cash would be a welcome gift.

There are also online wedding registries that allow guests to donate towards your particular cause. For example, if you are saving towards your honeymoon, most travel agencies have programs that allow guests to donate towards the cost of your honeymoon. Some banks have even set up funds that allow guests to donate funds into a fund setup for the down payment on a house.

However you choose to get the word out to your family and friends, be aware that many will still prefer to give a gift from your wedding registry, so be sure to set up a wedding registry as well with things that you want and need. As time goes by the subject of asking for cash becomes less and less uncommon, and likely will be used much more in the future.
