What About Chocolate Wedding Cakes?

Wedding Cake No Comments »

What About Chocolate Wedding CakesI must admit, I’m a bit of a traditionalist at heart, and I wanted to have a beautiful traditional wedding. I wanted a huge white wedding dress, my dad to walk me down the aisle, and everything that went along with it. I have to admit though, I I nearly faltered when I started planning for our wedding cakes, and what kind of cake they would be. Let me explain. I love chocolate, and I can’t plain white cake. Really, even birthday cake…if it’s not chocolate than I really don’t want a piece of it. It’s crazy, but I guess it’s a girl thing or something. So, when it came to planning our wedding cake flavors, I really didn’t want a plain white wedding cake. I wanted my husband’s groom cake instead, chocolate cake with chocolate icing and chocolate covered strawberries. My husband, by the way, hates chocolate. It’s a crazy mixed up world we live in, isn’t it? And then I wondered, ar chocolate wedding cakes for brides even possible? Turns out, the answer is YES!

Chocolate Wedding Cakes are Getting Popular

Turns out, I wasn’t the only bride craving the groom’s cake at the wedding.

White Wedding Cake?

White Wedding CakeBut I Don’t Like White Wedding Cake!

We really had a dilemma when it came to wedding cakes. First and foremost, I love chocolate more than just about any other flavor out there with a close second being strawberry, and so when I was planning my wedding, the last thing that I wanted was a white wedding cake with white frosting. In my mind, if that was going to be the case, then I would just resign myself to enjoy the groom’s cake (which was chocolate on chocolate, with chocolate covered strawberries) and only have a bite of my beautiful but still vanilla wedding cake. Oddly enough, my husband hates chocolate, and getting him a chocolate groom’s cake didn’t seem to make too much sense either. So that made me start to wonder, does the bride have to have a white/vanilla wedding cake?

Now, I’m really big into tradition, and I wanted a white wedding cake….but just not the vanilla flavoring and bland white cake. No thank you. I sat down and had a talk with the lady who would be baking our wedding cakes, and we had a long discussion about it, and I absolutely love what we came up with. The icing on the brides cake was of course still white, but she was able to add tiny sugar flowers to the outside to help spice it up, and it matched my wedding colors. Then, each layer of my wedding cake was a different flavor. Fun huh? For example, I had a strawberry layer of wedding cake, a chocolate layer, and yes even a vanilla layer. The cake was delicious, and everyone got to have the kind of wedding cake that was their favorite, even me!

While I still believe the bride’s cake should be predominately white, there are so many ways you can dress up a white cake, such as with ribbons, fresh flowers, sugar flowers, other colored icing swirls or polka dots, the sky is really the limit on this one to make your wedding cake completely you. Check out my article on Wedding Cake Designs for some ideas. In the end, I think that you should be able to distinguish which cake is the brides and which is the grooms, but with all the different possibilities out there, it shouldn’t be that difficult. Wedding cakes have really become a work of art in and of themselves, if you do any research and look at pictures of wedding cakes you’ll agree with me. The best thing is, I can honestly say that I loved my wedding cake!
