When most people think about wedding cake toppers, they think about that little plastic figurines of a bride and groom all dressed up and standing together on top of a wedding cake. This miniature couple is typically standing hand in hand, or perhaps arm in arm. In fact, up until just a few years ago, wedding cakes just didn’t look like wedding cakes without that miniature plastic couple. Luckily, that just isn’t the case anymore. Now, wedding cake toppers come in all kinds of designs, colors, materials, and can be personalized to fit anything you want for your wedding. The last thing that I wanted for my wedding cake was to have it be plain white with that tiny plastic couple on top. Here are some great ideas for personalized wedding cake toppers, as well as why couples would want a wedding cake topper in the first place.
Why Use Wedding Cake Toppers?
Wedding cake toppers are a great way to personalize your wedding cake. It seems a little crazy to say, but wedding cake toppers can add some fun and excitement to any kind of wedding cake.
Not only that, but they are kind of fun to hang onto as keepsakes, perhaps to use at anniversaries in the future, or just as a fond memory. Wedding cake toppers are a great glimpse into who the bride and groom really are, as well as what kinds of tastes in decorating they have.
Personalized Wedding Cake Toppers
As I mentioned above, I wanted to have a wedding cake topper, but I didn’t want it to be the tried and true bride and groom. Instead, I went with a monogram of our new family. Little did I know I was going with a pretty popular theme in wedding cake toppers. You can also have wedding cake toppers made that actually look like the bride and groom, by sending in current photographs of yourselves. Our personalized wedding cake topper is something that we’ll keep forever, and perhaps use again at one of our milestone anniversaries. It’s nice to know that we have it. There are other ways to personalize wedding cake toppers for your wedding. If both of you like a particular sport, cell phones, or some other fun story you’d like to emphasize, you can find it or special order it on the Internet.
Humorous Wedding Cake Toppers
When I mentioned that wedding cake toppers were a glimpse into the couple’s lives, I was thinking about some of the humorous ones that I’ve seen out there. The wedding cake topper with the groom in a ball and chain, the bride and groom kissing, or the bride with a lasso around her groom’s leg, dragging him away. Humorous wedding cake toppers will always have your guests cracking up, and will liven up the reception.
Other Wedding Cake Toppers
While many brides may choose to use some wedding cake toppers featuring a bride and groom, other brides choose to use different kinds of wedding cake toppers entirely. Many brides will use flowers to adorn their wedding cakes, chocolates, petals, fruit and a variety of other items that will help to add to exactly what they want to have at their wedding reception. Wedding cake toppers should be something fun that you can add to your wedding reception, something that both you and your husband will enjoy shopping for. Think about what kind of statement you want to make on your wedding cake, and then hit the Internet for some great wedding cake toppers!

I read your article on cake toppers with interest and thought you might be intersted in my experience of trying to find something different in cake decorations. Like you, I decided that the traditional plastic bride and groom holding hands style of topper was somewhat dated now. So when my daughter got married last year we decided to do some research on what was out there, with a view of making something that little bit different.
We saw an article in an American Bride Magasine which featured \’Cake Jewellery\’. WOW!!! they were stunning. Beads and crystals used in such unique ways to create a beautiful centre piece to put on the top tier of a wedding cake.
As a past florist and jewellery maker I was inspired to create some of my own ideas and designs and I now have a fabulous collection of different styles and colours of cake toppers featuring wonderful swarovski crystals, pearls and beads of all shapes, sizes and colours. They have quickly become a great success and everyone who sees them thinks they are just delightful. I now have an Etsy shop, called Crystalcaketoppers, and a web site http://www.touchofcrystal.co.uk. Please feel free to take a look at some of my craftwork. Your feedback is always welcome.

It is often the finishing touch to a wedding cake, they even appear on birthday cakes to. The most popular wedding cake topper has to be the bride and groom riding a bicycle, Heather Higgins is a UK renown cake topper maker who has made many of these for her clients in the past.
