If you’re look at all the options out there for creating some beautiful wedding centerpieces on a budget, why not consider creating some beautiful wedding centerpieces with fruit? Fruit is relatively inexpensive, much more economical than a bunch of fresh flowers, it smells great, and looks beautiful on your wedding tables. When my husband and I were planning our weddings, my colors were peach and cream, and it wasn’t really the right time of the year for peaches, so I wasn’t able to use any kind of wedding centerpieces with fruit. God made so many different fruits with varying colors, textures and smells that using wedding centerpieces with fruit can be just perfect for nearly any wedding color combination you can think of to use. If you’re looking at creating wedding centerpieces with fruit, here are some great ideas to help you get started.
Using Whole Fruit
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to use wedding centerpieces with fruit is to use the fruit whole to capture the whole color. There are several ways to create these wedding centerpieces. One way is to arrange the fruit decoratively in a fruit bowl, on top of a layer of leaves, tissue paper, or pieces of colored material to dress it up a little bit. This centerpiece can be put together really quickly and easily. Another great idea for wedding centerpieces with fruit is to submerge the fruit. Here is a quick example using cherries. Using a tall hurricane glass, put some fresh fruit (such as cherries, oranges, limes, lemons, grapes, pomegranates, or anything else you can think of, and pour water over the top of them. Next, place some floating candles the same color as the fruit in the water, and you’ve got a quick and beautiful wedding centerpiece with fruit that is sure to enchant and impress.
Using Wedding Centerpieces with Fruit and Flowers
If you like the idea of using wedding centerpieces with fruit, but would still like to have some blooms on your wedding tables, then there are some quick and easy to ways to incorporate them. Perhaps the easiest way is to purchase one large bloom for each table. Then, place your fruit of choice (sliced or whole) in the bottom, covering with water and adding your bloom. You can create some great color combinations this way as well.
Finding the Right Fruit
I’ve already said that using wedding centerpieces with fruit can be more economical than large bouquets of flowers on your wedding tables, but that may not always be the case. Here are few helpful hints for finding the right kinds of fruits for your wedding centerpieces.
- Choose fruits in season – you’ll save a bunch of money and get better fruit than out of season fruit!
- Choose fruits that compliment your wedding colors, but they don’t have be exact. Citrus fruits go well with colors in the yellow, green and orange families, while apples, grapes, cherries, cranberries and pomegranates go with reds, purples and pinks.
- Purchase the fruit for your centerpieces just a day or two before your wedding. You don’t want ugly rotting or bruised fruit in your wedding centerpieces.
- Be realistic about the costs. Price out what each centerpiece will cost you, including all the materials. If you’re just arranging fresh fruit in a fruit bowl, consider the fruit, the bowls, and what you want to put under the fruit, as well as anything else you want to add. If you’re using more than one kind of fruit, figure out how many pieces of each kind of fruit you want to use for one centerpiece. It makes a difference.
Wedding centerpieces with fruit can not only be a beautiful decoration for your wedding guests to look at, but if like, it can also be a great healthy snack for your wedding guests as well, without adding a huge amount of money to your catering bill.
