Funny Wedding Speeches

Bridal Party, Wedding Reception No Comments »

Funny Wedding SpeechesThere are typically several different wedding speeches given throughout the wedding reception. These wedding speeches can include the father of the bride, the maid of honor, the best man, and any other family members or friends who would like to get up and give their well-wishes to the newly married company. While some members of your family and friends may want to give heart felt and totally serious wedding speeches, there are others that will feel more comfortable giving funny wedding speeches followed by something a little more serious. Funny wedding speeches are a great way to liven up the mood at the wedding reception, and to get everyone involved in enjoying the wedding speeches that are taking place. If you are looking at having to give a wedding speech in the near future, and are looking at some funny wedding speeches for some ideas, then here are some basic steps to take and places where you should think twice about going.

What to Look for in Funny Wedding Speeches

To help you create some jokes for some great wedding speeches, you’ll find the Internet to be a great resource. You can find some great one-liners on the Internet that can make a great opener for your wedding speech. Also, you can think back a little ways when you remember how the bride and groom met, or other funny stories during their dating lives about when you knew they were made for each other. Another idea is to find a little poem that is meant for weddings and has some humor about married life.

Funny Wedding Speeches - What to Avoid

While some jokes and material you may come up with for your wedding speech may sound funny to you, be sure to consider the total audience you will be speaking to at the wedding. Make sure that any material you come up with will not be offensive to parents, grandparents, and will not have to be censored from small children. You get my drift here. Embarrassing stories are another thing you may want to be careful with. The last thing you want to do is to humiliate the bride and groom on their wedding day in front of all their friends and family - on the most important day of their lives thus far. Stay away from anything that could cause a fight between the bride and the groom, such as the romantic past of the bride and groom, or secrets they may not know about each other. Also, if you can at all help it, try to stay away from inside jokes that only you and the bride or groom will understand or you’ll alienate your audience.

One thing you need to remember about putting together some funny wedding speeches is that you don’t want your whole speech to have people rolling. A few openers and jokes in the beginning are fine, but at some point near the end you’ll need to get serious about wishing the bride and groom good luck in their new lives together. Let them know how much they mean to you, and how much you look forward to the good times ahead. These simple hints for keeping your funny wedding speech under control can help you to really do honor to the bride and groom on their wedding day. Ideas on Asking Friends to Be in Your Wedding

Bridal Party 1 Comment »

Ideas on Asking Friends to be in Your WeddingIt is a great honor to be asked to be someone’s bridesmaid, or their maid of honor. When you ask someone to be your bridesmaid or maid of honor, you are singling them out as someone extremely close to you, and showing them just how important they are to you. In addition to this, your friends should be excited about the possibility of being able to be such an integral part of your special day, and many can remember the day that their best friend asks them to be a part of their bridal party. So why not ask them in a way that will make them laugh, cry, or really remember the fun and unique way that you asked them to be a part of your wedding. Personally, nearly all of my bridesmaids lived far away from me. Three of my bridesmaids were my husbands sisters, one was my sister, and then a dear friend that I had in church. I simply called each of them on the phone to ask, and got all kinds of responses from disbelief to cheers and shouting. But, if you are looking for more unique ways to ask your friends to be a part of your wedding, then here are some great ideas to get you started.

Ask Your Friends to be in Your Wedding All at Once

One great way to ask your friends to be a part of your wedding is to do it all at once, so that everybody can be be surprised and get excited together. You can just come out and ask them all at one time, or find a more fun way to do it. Make homemade cards and pass them around, or maybe simply a small piece of paper rolled up like a scroll that they have to open. Pass one out to everyone and have them open it, reading a small statement about how much each of them mean to you, and if they will do you the honor of taking part in your special day. If you are going to use this method, it may be best to ask your maid of honor first so that there aren’t any hard feelings between the other girls you want to have as bridesmaids.

Ask Your Friends to be in Your Wedding with a Gift

Another great idea for asking friends to be in your wedding is to present them with some kind of gift. Maybe give them a flower with the message tied onto the stem. Your friends will love the flower, and it will remind them of what they will be carrying in your wedding. Another great gift idea is to buy them all Bridesmaid’s Shirts off of the Internet. The shirts are relatively inexpensive, and the girls should get the idea once they open the package.

However you choose to ask your bridesmaids to have a part in your wedding, don’t feel bad if one of your friends turns you down. I had a dear friend from high school turn me down due to a prior engagement, and while it was a little sad, I understood that she had a life going on in another town, and knew that she still wanted to be there. So, don’t be brokenhearted if you get a no answer, just tell her you love her and wish she could, regroup and find another bridesmaid to take her spot. If you have a favorite way that you were asked to be a bridesmaid, or way you are planning on asking your friends to be in your wedding, then please write in and let me know.

Bachelor Party Ideas

Bridal Party 4 Comments »

Bachelor Party IdeasI’ve done several articles on different bachelorette party ideas, but up until now, I’ve left the subject of bachelor parties alone. This isn’t because I want to ignore the guys out there, and it certainly isn’t because there are no clean bachelor party ideas besides the drunken debaucheries that are typically associated with bachelor parties. There are plenty of clean bachelor party ideas that you can that can still give the groom a great time without strippers or anything of the like. So, if you’re looking for some great bachelor party ideas, then here are some great bachelor party ideas to help you get started.

Bachelor Party Ideas - Game Night In

One set of popular bachelor party ideas is have a game night. This is what my husband did for his bachelor party. He and his groomsmen stayed in at the house playing with a Wii and playstation games on his big screen television. When they weren’t playing video games, they were playing dominoes or cards, and eating a whole lot of pizza. This is really what my husband wanted to do, as he didn’t get to see his best friend or cousins very much anymore. Bachelor party ideas with a game night involved allow the groomsmen to all spend time together and relax before the wedding.

Bachelor Party Ideas - Game Night Out

If a game night indoors isn’t exactly your cup of tea, then for another great bachelor party idea, look for options of doing a game night out. There are lots of places you can go for a game night outside the house. Find one that offers video games, go carts, batting cages, putt-putt golf, and of course, an all you can eat buffet. What better way for guys hanging out together can have some fun. This is a great and clean bachelor party idea that anyone can have fun with.

Bachelor Party Ideas - Take a Trip

Depending on how early you chose to have your bachelor party, one great bachelor party idea is to take a trip with your groomsmen. This requires a bit of research, and knowing the groom pretty well too. Find out his favorite team, and take the groom out for a baseball game, basketball game, or football game of his favorite team or sport.

There are lots of great bachelor party ideas where the groomsmen can still have fun, and not be in trouble with their brides the next day. More Bachelorette Party Ideas

Bridal Party 2 Comments »

More Bachelorette Party IdeasBachelorette parties can be a lot of fun. Bachelorette parties are typically hosted by the maid of honor and her bridesmaids and other girlfriends. Now, as I’ve mentioned before in several previous articles, I’m a Christian, and the party scene with drinking and strippers just doesn’t appeal to me. So it started me thinking, there have got to be other kinds of bachelorette parties that brides can go to that aren’t just about drinking, clubs, and male strippers. My previous article about Bachelorette Party Ideas went over really well, and a lot of people got help from it, so much so that I’ve decided to do another article with more great bachelorette party ideas that are different from norm. So, consider this my bachelorette party ideas part 2. Here is another list of great bachelorette party ideas that you can use to plan a bachelorette party the bride will never forget!

Take Your Bachelorette Party Out of Town

Planning this kind of bachelorette party requires some planning, to be sure. Grab the bride and a group of ladies and just take a weekend out of town. If the bride likes to shop, then rent a hotel room near an outlet mall, or near to her favorite boutiques. That way you can spend the day shopping, or window shopping, and the bride can spend her last evenings going out to dinner with her favorite girlfriends, and staying up late having girl talk. This kind of bachelorette party idea is a great way to give the bride some girl time, as well as some time to unload some of the stress that she has been dealing with doing her wedding planning.

Take your Bachelorette Party to the Spa

I covered this bachelorette party idea when I was talking about some different bridal shower ideas. But a spa is a great place to host a bachelorette party as well. Treat the bride to a relaxing massage, or even a manicure and pedicure to help her get ready for the wedding. Then, after everyone is relaxed and rejuvenated, take her out to a nice restaurant, to a karaoke bar, or some other place that the bride loves to go to. Remember that the bachelorette party is a party for the bride, and you should make it something that she really loves to do.

Bachelorette Party Ideas - The Slumber Party

My sister hosted a bachelorette party like this just a few months ago. The bride really just wanted a night to stay in, and to have one last slumber party before her wedding. So, they did it up like we were back in junior high or high school. They rented movies, baked cookies, and gave the bride a few gifts for her wedding, and overall they had a great time. It was just what the bride wanted to be able to spend some great time with friends, and relax from planning her wedding. Not only that, but she got to act like she was younger again.

There are lots of different bachelorette party ideas that you can use to help give the bride a wonderful time. If you are short on ideas, then just check out my previous article as well, Bachelorette Party Ideas. It’s sure to give you some great ideas and at least help you get started planning the best bachelorette party you can. If you have any ideas of bachelorette parties you’ve attended, or a bachelorette party that was thrown for you, then please write in and let us know.

Maid of Honor Lives Too Far Away?

Bridal Party No Comments »

Maid of Honor Lives Too Far Away?I had someone write in a few weeks ago with a very interesting question, that I’m sure many brides face when choosing their maid of honor or bridesmaids. This young lady had just gotten engaged, and wanted to ask a very good friend of hers to be her maid of honor, but the girl lived several hours away, and didn’t know if this would work or not. She did not want to make things difficult on her friend with a lot of traveling, and I believe she really wanted someone nearby to help her out with her wedding planning if she needed it. It was an interesting question. So the question being, should you choose a maid of honor that lives far away even though they are your best friend? I believe yes. There are plenty of things a maid of honor can do over a distance to help you out in your wedding planning, and here are just a few of them to think about.

Choosing a Wedding or Bridesmaid Dress

One of the tasks that the maid of honor is typically given is to help the bride choose the dresses that the bridesmaids will wear, as well as be with the bride when she is picking out her wedding dress. This can be done from a distance, though it may be a little difficult. For the bridesmaid dresses, ask your maid of honor to look on the Internet and/or try some dresses on to come up with some favorites for bridesmaid dresses. Then, you can easily email pictures back and forth. If you really want your maid of honor to be there when you are looking at wedding dresses, and the distance between you isn’t too far away, then plan a weekend when ya’ll can get together, and run and look and bridesmaid dresses and reception venues, and anything else you want to do with her.

Planning Bridal Showers or a Bachelorette Party

The Internet is a beautiful thing. If your maid of honor wants to throw a bridal shower or bachelorette party for you, it can still easily be done from a distance. Find a location you want (like a friend’s home or a restaurant), and then via the Internet she can easily make her reservations, buy any decorations she needs, and even send invitations to invited guests without living in the same town as you.

Being the Brides Right Hand “Man”

The basic duty of the maid of honor is to be there for the bride in whatever she may need. Your maid of honor can still do this for you if she lives farther away. By means of telephone calls you need her to make, some projects your maid of honor can do on her own out of town, and much more. Plus, she should be with you a few days before the wedding so you can get some help and friend time before the wedding as well.

When my husband and I got married, his best friend lived in Alaska at the time, and we live in Texas. There was no question in his mind that he still wanted his best friend to be his best man, and they just made it work. But if you think about it, the best man really doesn’t have as many duties as the maid of honor does, and it kind of got me to thinking a little bit. Hopefully this article has been a help to you, and if you have any more questions or examples about how this has worked out for you in the past, don’t hesitate to write and ask.
