Rehearsal Dinner IdeasThis may seem odd to some people, but our wedding didn’t really seem real until all of our family started showing up for the rehearsal dinner. That’s when it really seemed to hit me, that hey I was getting married the next day, and all of those plans that I had been making for the past nine months were going to be the next day. It was a weird feeling. Maybe a mixture of nervousness mixed in with a feeling of happiness that so many of our family members had made it to the rehearsal dinner, some coming in from great distances. Our rehearsal dinner was a great time of being able to hang out with everyone and relax a little bit from all of the wedding planning that we had been doing. Now, as I’ve mentioned in a previous article, Our Rehearsal Dinner, we chose to hold the event in a rented party room of a nice steak house. And it was really elegant and beautiful, but you don’t have to have your rehearsal dinner that way. There are lots of great unique rehearsal dinner ideas that you can use to help ensure that you have the most fun with your family and friends before the wedding. Here are some of my favorite rehearsal dinner ideas.

Rehearsal Dinner Ideas - Sports

This is a great rehearsal dinner idea for all of you sport lovers out there. Instead of going to a fancy restaurant for your rehearsal dinner, why not have the wedding rehearsal early in the day, and then take the whole family out to the softball field, football field, volleyball court, or any other sport that you fancy. A great gift and helpful tool for the teams would be if you had t-shirts made with the bride or groom’s team. This makes a great gift they can take home, as well as helping you tell the different teams apart. Then, have someone grill hamburgers and hot dogs out there. You’re sure to have a rehearsal dinner your friends and family will never forget.

Rehearsal Dinner Ideas -Â Restaurant

I know I know, I said unique wedding ideas…but trust me. When my cousin got married, she chose a hip restaurant that was only a few blocks away from the wedding ceremony. It was so close we all walked to the restaurant where there was a large area set aside for the rehearsal dinner. The food was great, and the restaurant even had live music and a dance floor so that everyone could enjoy themselves. The reason this is in my list of great rehearsal dinner ideas is that it was a great time that the family could have together making memories, as well as a time for the bride and groom to kick back and relax a little bit.

Rehearsal Dinner Ideas - House Party

Instead of paying a bunch of money for a party room at a nice restaurant or hotel, why not just host the rehearsal in the home that the two of you will be sharing after the wedding? You can designate people to do the cooking (or cleaning), or just cater the event with your favorite restaurant, and let both of your families sit around talking, and really getting to know each other. This rehearsal dinner idea is a great way to just enjoy everyone together in a relaxed environment. Then, you can break out the video games or movies and enjoy the time you have together.

There are many rehearsal dinner ideas that you can use. Make sure that the choice you go with is something that is comfortable for the both of you. After all, you have a wedding in your near future, you shouldn’t have to be stressing out about the rehearsal dinner as well.

Our Rehearsal Dinner

Our Rehearsal DinnerOur rehearsal dinner was a lot of fun. My husband’s parents wanted it to be something nice since they were paying for it, and a few months before the wedding they came up to help us choose a location. We went from restaurant to restaurant, looking at their party rooms and asking about costs to rent the room and the cost of food for everyone in attendance until we finally settled on a location and put down a deposit on a room. Our final decision was a popular steakhouse that was only about twenty minutes away from our church and where everyone would be staying for the wedding. The room was really beautiful, it had large natural stone with giant fireplaces and paintings, very western theme. We put the deposit on the room, and then his parents left to go back home.

In the weeks leading up to the wedding, we called several times to make sure they still had us on the list for that night, and to verify the times that his mom and sisters could come in and decorate the meeting room for our rehearsal dinner. Calling several times was a great idea as we wanted to make sure they didn’t forget that we were coming. We chose a menu plan for the group which allowed everyone their choice of steaks and sides with salad and dessert, and we were ready to go.

As I mentioned before in my article, Rehearsal Dinner Invitations, I chose not to send out rehearsal dinner invitations, and we ended up having a large group of people at our rehearsal dinner. But then again, we had two pastors and their families, a piano player and her husband, the family doing the special music, and then all of our groomsmen and bridesmaids with their significant others. Not only that, but one of my bridesmaids had her family come in from another country to attend our wedding, and we invited them to the rehearsal dinner as well. We had quite a crowd.

My mother-in-law did an excellent job decorating for the rehearsal dinner, and everything was just beautiful. The rehearsal dinner tables were long rectangles, and she had covered them with white tablecloths and then added personalized candle holders along the tables with some sweet smelling candles that were peach colored, scattered confetti along the tables, and had greenery in a lot of different places as well. It really helped to transform the room into a perfect rehearsal dinner.

My fiance and I passed out the gifts that we had for our wedding party and our parents, all of which went over really well. Our families are very close even spending time together at holidays, and we had an excellent time at our rehearsal dinner. It was a great time to be able to sit back and relax and enjoy the entire family being together again, instead of stressing about the wedding. I’ve written this article basically to say, have fun at your rehearsal dinner, and don’t let stress ruin all of the fun you could be having on your wedding day. Your rehearsal dinner is typically the night before the wedding, with everyone involved in the ceremony in attendance. Then, the wedding planning or other party walks the bridal party through what will be happening and where to stand. Then, once the rehearsal is over, everyone joins the bride and groom for a dinner either at the wedding location, or at a restaurant. With everything going on, many brides do not send out rehearsal dinner invitations, and I didn’t do it myself. I relied on word of mouth for getting everyone to the right place at the right time, and it worked all right. Looking back though, I probably should have sent out rehearsal dinner invitations, as it would have made things a little less stressful on everyone involved, and of course on myself making sure that everyone knew where we were going, what time to show up, and more. So, if you are wondering what kind of rehearsal dinner invitations to send out, and who should be invited to your rehearsal dinner, then here are some great hints to help you get started.
