Wedding Tennis Shoes

Wedding Tennis ShoesYou’ll find that on your wedding day, you’re on your feet nearly the whole day. I remember for my wedding, the only times I sat down were to have my hair and make-up done, in the limo on the way to the reception, and for about five minutes during the meal where my husband and I grabbed a little bit of the dinner we had planned before making the rounds to the tables to thank everyone for coming. Needless to say, I was very happy that I had some comfortable wedding shoes, or it would have been miserable for me to be on my feet for that long. In one of my previous articles, Cheap Wedding Shoes, I brought up the idea of using white wedding tennis shoes to wear with your dress. If you’re looking at the idea of wearing wedding tennis shoes, then here are some factors you need to consider.

Wedding Tennis Shoes Should be White

If you’re going to wear wedding tennis shoes, it should go without saying that they should be all white. Don’t wear your old dirty pair of running shoes that you’ve broken in and are so comfortable, but look ratty and have colorful stripes on the sides. Spring for a new pair of all white tennis shoes with no hint of color on them at all. If you already have an all white pair, then give them a good washing to see if they will work for your wedding tennis shoes.

Decorate Your Wedding Tennis Shoes

While you don’t really HAVE to decorate your wedding tennis shoes, it would sure look a whole lot more festive if you did. One great and simple idea of decorating your wedding tennis shoes is to replace the shoelaces with lengths of tulle. Another popular idea that some brides do to decorate their wedding tennis shoes are to have their flower girls decorate their shoes with glue and an assortment of pieces of lace and sequins.

Decide if Wedding Tennis Shoes are Right for You

You might be surprised to find that some people will flip out when you tell them that you want to wear wedding tennis shoes on your big day. Many will argue that you can see the tennis shoes under the dress, that it just looks too informal, etc. If you are in that situation, check out my other article on White Wedding Shoes. Only you can make up your mind about if you want to wear wedding tennis shoes or not. I say, if the dress is floor length, your shoes most likely will not be seen very much, only the tip of the shoe. Also, people are more focused on your dress then they are on your shoes, so chances are most of your guests won’t notice them.

Wedding tennis shoes are a comfortable alternative to many of the wedding shoes that are out there. I remember looking at all of the pictures of brides in the bridal magazines and thinking, they’re only sitting and taking pictures, they’re not spending the whole day on their feet in those shoes!! If you’re more comfortable in heels than tennis shoes, then go with the heels. Just consider what will help to make you the most comfortable on your wedding day.

I am actually planning on wearing Converse Chucks to my wedding. This was a decision I made back in my early 20s as a joke, but as the day approached I felt that perhaps Chucks would be the most comfortable option. Contrary to this post, I am wearing my old, broken in shoes that are primarily black with some white trim — and you will definitely see them because my dress is knee-length. I disagree that “wedding tennis shoes should be white”. I think it depends on what the bride and groom personally like. Our wedding is going to be fairly casual, and on a golf course in spring, which brings the risk of mud. I have no desire to buy new, clean, all-white shoes just to have them get muddy on the grass during the reception and pictures. I would also like to mention that none of my guests were shocked when I told them my decision to wear sneakers. Perhaps this is because I am a very low-maintenance, casual, and outdoorsy person, but I was told by several people that they would be more surprised to see me in heels on the big day. Even better, many guests asked if they could also wear informal shoes to save their own feet — this was fine by me, of course!

I am planning on wearing tennis shoes. I have wanted that ever since I saw the Movie Father of the Bride. I want to be comfortable and break tradition a little. Since this is my 2nd wedding and my dress is ivory should my Tennis shoes still be whits? Or should I have them dyed to Ivory to match my dress?
