It seems that in today’s era that couples are getting married later and later. Some experts argue that men and women are putting marriage off longer so that they can really get a sense of themselves as individuals, and sort of carve a niche out for themselves in the world. Most men and women today both have their own homes, or at least living on their own with homes full of everything (such as appliances, gadgets and linens) that they need for their homes. Which is a great thing, until you’re looking at getting married and you already have two homes full of everything you need. So you don’t need very many wedding gifts, what are you supposed to do then? Register for stuff you don’t need? Register for all new stuff even though you already have the most wonderful blender and mixer in the world and don’t want to get rid of it? Why not create a honeymoon registry?
What is a Honeymoon registry?
A honeymoon registry is a service that engaged couples use to have their honeymoon paid for by their wedding guests, by accepting donations towards their dream honeymoon vacation.
The honeymoon registry hasn’t been around for very long, but it is quickly becoming a trendy alternative to a traditional wedding registry. To put it simply, a normal wedding registry allows the couple to register for china, flatware and other kitchen gadgets while a honeymoon registry allows the couple to register for airfare, hotel accommodations, meals, and even some shopping cash as well. A honeymoon registry lets couples have the honeymoon of their dreams without breaking the bank. Face it, with the average American wedding costing around $28k, footing the bill for a dream honeymoon can really take a chunk out of the couple’s pocketbook.
Why Would Couples Use a Honeymoon Registry?
There are three main reasons that a couple would choose to use a honeymoon registry instead of, or along with a typical wedding registry. The first one I’ve already mentioned, and that is that the couple already owns all of the items that would typically be found on a typical wedding registry. And instead of housewarming gifts, they’d really appreciate help in paying for a honeymoon instead. Another popular reason for using a honeymoon registry is that it’s unique and different from any other gift that a wedding guest can pay for. Maybe a parent or close friend would rather pay for a relaxing massage on the honeymoon for you both instead of mixing bowls. The third reason that makes a honeymoon registry so great is that everything can be done online or over the phone. Many services that offer a honeymoon registry have an easy to use website and some have phone services for the rare person without a computer. Plus, there are no gifts to wrap!
How does a Honeymoon Registry Work?
A honeymoon registry is simple to set up once you have found a trustworthy company to deal with. All you need to do is set up an account and fill out all of your pertinent information. Next, set up your wedding gift items and create your own personal wedding website for the registry. Once your guests reach your personal wedding website, they know they’ll have found the right place. Then all you need to do is to notify your wedding guests about your online honeymoon registry so that they can check it out.
What does a Honeymoon Registry Cost?
Typically there are some kind of service charges for using an online honeymoon registry. It’s really not all that much, maybe a percentage of the amount of money brought in or sometimes a monthly fee for their service. Be sure to research the costs of each honeymoon registry to make sure you the most honeymoon for your money.
A honeymoon registry can be a great tool for couples wanting the honeymoon of their dreams and not hurt themselves financially once they get back trying to pay for it.
