I was doing some research for a popular article, When is the Right Time to get Engaged, and I found a lot of interesting facts that I had never really thought about before. The first is that while there are statistics for everything from how long people wear their hair to how fat the people in our country really are, there aren’t very many real statistics about marriage. There are plenty of facts about how many people get married every year and how many divorces there are, the US Census Bureau can track those pretty easily. But since couples don’t have to go and register or tell the government that they are going to propose to their girlfriend/boyfriend (and thank goodness we don’t have to!), they can only guess about what those numbers actually are. So, while I did find out that an average of 2.2 million couples (that’s couples ya’ll!) get married every year, there aren’t any statistics about how many get engaged, or when is it a good time to get engaged. They can guess though, and here are some great times to get engaged.
Valentines Day
Duh. Seriously, it’s the most romantic day of the year, you’ve got the be a dummy if Valentine’s Day didn’t even appear on your list. If you’re asking yourself when is it a good time to get engaged, Valentine’s Day is a great place to start. True, she may already be expecting flowers or a nice dinner, but surprising her with a ring will make the day even more special and memorable for future Valentine Days together.
The Holiday Season
The holiday season is another great answer to the question about when is it a good time to get engaged. The holiday season includes November, December and January. I figured that Christmas was a good time to get engaged, with everybody already in the mood for celebrating paired with the magic and festive-ness that Christmas is known for. But it turns out that fall, namely Thanksgiving, is another popular time for getting engaged. The family is already together, so why not turn it into a celebration, right? New Year’s night is another popular time of the year to get engaged, with the late festivities and anticipation of a new year together. It’s a great way to make a statement and do something totally memorable on an important day. Many of our dear friends have gotten engaged during the holiday season, making it a great time to get engaged.
The Bride to Be’s Birthday
Believe it or not, the bride to be’s birthday is also a very popular time of the year to get engaged. I mean, if you’re really stuck on what to get her for her birthday, this always works, right? Just kidding, but statistically, the bride’s birthday is a popular time of the year to get engaged too.
Any Random Day
I do need to pay homage to when my husband and I got engaged. It wasn’t Valentine’s Day or the holiday season. In fact, I don’t really remember exactly what day it was, I’ll have to go back and do some research to find that out. I do know that it was any ordinary Friday night, with a nice dinner cooked by my husband followed by a trip to a nearby lake to watch the sunset. Sometimes not expecting something can make it even more speical than knowing it’s coming.
So if you’re asking yourself when is it a good time to get engaged, you can choose to go with a day that she’ll remember forever, like a holiday or her birthday, or go for the element of surprise for a real treat! Just be creative and enjoy!
