Most people, whether young or old, married or not can tell you that typically the bride receives her engagement ring first out of the couple. Most people can see in their mind’s eye a young man bending down on one knee to ask for the hand of his true love in marriage. The engagement ring comes first, and then comes the wedding bands. Wedding bands are totally different from what you think of with engagement rings. First of all, wedding bands don’t usually look anything like engagement rings, and unlike engagement rings, wedding bands are given and worn at a specific time. So if you’re planning a wedding and are looking for more information on a wedding band for your husband to be, or simply researching a wedding band for the bride, then you’ll definitely want to keep reading. I’m about to discuss the differences in wedding bands, along with when they are typically given, and the different types of wedding bands as well.
When are Wedding Bands Given?
Unlike the engagement ring which is typically given to the bride which starts their engagement, the wedding bands are given much later. You’ll find that during the actual wedding ceremony, the wedding bands are exchanged during the wedding vows. At this time, the bride and groom will place the wedding bands on each other hands while reciting their wedding vows. Typically, the maid of honor and the best man will hold the wedding bands until it is time for the vows to begin, passing them to the bride or groom at the appointed time.
Men’s Wedding Bands
Years ago, wedding rings were only worn by the women, and most men went without them. Only in the past fifty to hundred years have men started wearing wedding bands as well, and there is a huge variety of men’s wedding bands to choose from. You can choose from different diameters of rings, if you want any stones to be in their rings (some men like the extra bling!), types of metals for wedding bands, and other sorts of designs you’ll find for men’s wedding bands. There are several different kinds of metals for men’s wedding bands, such as tungsten, titanium, silver, gold, platinum and even palladium. There are lots of different pros and cons with each of the metals so be sure to research them all before making a decision on your man’s wedding band. Make sure to take him with you when you go to pick out wedding bands so that he can find a ring he is comfortable wearing, that fits in with his lifestyle.
Women’s Wedding Bands
For most women, the engagement ring is really what it’s all about. Most women have been waiting for that diamond ring for a long time and have a hard time choosing between the different wedding bands available to them. Of course, women can have all the same metals as can be found in men’s wedding bands, with different diameters and styles to compliment their engagement ring. But one thing that’s so great about wedding bands for girls is that we can have ring guards. Personally, I love the look of diamond ring guards, which is basically a small ring on either side of the engagement ring and really makes your engagement ring look even more elegant. Be sure to check them out. Most women choose plain wedding bands to help make their own engagement ring stand out even more. Be sure to try on several different styles to find one that suits you best.
Now that you know more information about wedding bands, you should be at more of an advantage when you’re picking out your own wedding bands. There are lots of great places to find a deal on wedding bands, such as online, on sale in off seasons, and through diamond brokers (which is where my husband and I got our own wedding weddings and engagement ring). Be sure to do your research, and find a great wedding band that you love and that you won’t mind wearing for the rest of your life.
